GRAND FINAL CALL UP FOR CLUB YOUNG GUN

15 Sep 2014 by North Ringwood FC Committee

Hi Sainters

As mentioned earlier Sean Barnard was a late withdrawal from the side to take to the field in Saturday’s Grand Final side. Sean torn the webbing between two fingers at training on Tuesday night. Sean did everything possible to remain in the side having his hand operated on Thursday afternoon. He was given every opportunity to prove his fitness to the coaching staff on Friday morning but unfortunately time was just not on his side.

This opened up the door for one of the subs to come in. So out came the board to work out who was the best fit to replace the injured Sean, the lucky player was Aaron Fenton.

Next question was, “how do we contact him”?. Being a Friday Aaron was at school and no doubt in class. So Moyley called his phone, Aaron saw the number but being in class let it go, but by now thinking about nothing else but the missed call from his Coach. The phone went off again, the name Moyley on the screen, but it was now the point of no return. Phone in hand young Azz jested it towards his teacher and said “sorry but i need to take this call”, his teacher having a fair idea, told him to take the call. Call taken and the words he dreamt about, “Azz, Moyley here, your in mate”. The rest is history.

Most of you know Aaron by now but for those who have not had the pleasure of watching this young gun go about his business, hopefully this will help.

Aaron is our youngest player at the club. Still officially this year an Under 17’s player at the Junior Club, Azz decided to not play his final year at the Junior Club and instead join his brother Callum up the road and play in the under 19’s.

It was not long into the season that Aaron was selected to play in the Senior side against Bayswater.

During the course of the year, Aaron played in every side he was able to and only just missing out in playing in the Vets side because he was 15 years to young! By the end of the Home and Away season Aaron had played 6 games in the Seniors, 9 games in the Under 19’s, 1 game in the reserves and 1 game game in the Under 17’s.

It was now finals time and Aaron was back in the Under 19’s playing in both their finals match. With the 19’s going out last week, Moyley told him to get to the Seniors training this week just in case and as we now know this turned out to be a winning move for our youngest player.

Aaron had a brilliant game on Saturday with his first 1/4 an absolute highlight of what a young man at his age was able to do. In the end Aaron kicked 2 goals for the day and was named in the best. (Pic attached: Callum and Aaron Fenton).

What a great year for the Fenton Family, with older brother Callum who nearly nearly gave up his dream of playing Senior Football due to a series of year ending injuries, also making his debut this year, and not only playing every match but becoming one of our key defenders for the year.

Cant wait to see these two home grown boys back on the field again next year.

Go Saints
